BUNCHBERRY
Cornus canadensis
Bunchberry is a unique groundcover rarely found in landscapes and forests due to previous
disturbances in the forest. The plants are herbaceous with roots spreading moderately to form a colony.
In the spring, the whorled leaves grow from ground stems and a little white flower will appear during the
summer. Once the flowers are pollinated by insects, berries will grow changing green to deep orange by
autumn. In the autumn, the light to deep green foliage will slowly change color to burgundy laced with
olive green shades. The fruits are eaten by wildlife.
USDA Zones 3-7.
