C’s Red
The inside flesh is deep red with a sweet berry flavor. The skin color is reddish brown when
the fig is fully ripe and will resist cracking during rainfall unlike other fig varieties. Fruit size is considered
large, about ¼ inch larger than a golf ball. The fine fruit quality is suitable for fresh marketing after the
fruits are chilled to 40 degrees. The plants adapt very well to container growing and can be grown
outdoors in the soil. The original plant on the Pangaio residence is more than 50 years old with a trunk
12 inches in diameter and a height of 25 feet. The plants are cold tolerant to USDA Zone 6, so will grow
successfully in temperatures minus 10 degrees F.
