Discovered in 2002 in Nova Scotia, Canada this fast growing hardwood maple tree with its ability to thrive in a broad range of soil structures and chemistry will be an essential contributor to the climate change solution.
Hardy from USDA Zones 3 through 9, Regal Petticoat has aesthetic appeal throughout the seasons. The new spring growth is copper colored embraced by elongated crimson red bud caps producing a “Bird of Paradise” effect. In summer this handsome tree has a deep glossy green leaf surface with a velvety royal purple underside and magnificent fall colors accented with reds, oranges, yellows, pinks and salmon.
Maturing at a height of 30-35 feet with a spread of 20-25 feet, Regal Petticoat’s wood properties and ability to withstand the rigors of the urban environment makes it suited for forestry, landscapes, parks and streetscapes.
Regal Petticoat Maple performs exceptionally well in hostile conditions from salt spray, wind, heat, drought, and has demonstrated superior resistance to many maple diseases and pests one most notably; Tar Spot (Rhytisma Acerinium).
Produced from softwood cuttings assures Regal Petticoat Maple’s “trueness to name” from the incredibly fibrous root system to its sturdy upright vase shaped canopy.
Distributed throughout the United States, Canada and the E.U. Regal Petticoat’s popularity is now driving demand for this essential addition to the climate change solution.
