NORTH SKY BLUEBERRY
Vaccinium corymbosum x angustifolium
Origin: University of Minnesota
Low-bush type cultivar. Plants are short-statured, growing to a height of 10 to 18 inches. Ripening date is July 15 in the South Haven, Michigan area. The plants yield between 1 and 2 pounds of fruit. Fruit size is small and has a dusty bloom that gives it a very attractive sky blue color.
Quality of fruit is very good. The fruit is firm and stores well with refrigeration. The berry is highly flavored. Harvesting is done by hand or with a Tabbut blueberry rake. Marketing potential is fresh or U-Pick.
Ornamental use of North Sky is good where a low-statured plant is needed. Plants are dense, with glossy dark green summer foliage that turns dark red in the fall. Plants of North Sky have survived to -40 degrees F. during the winter, but are most productive when adequate snow protection is available. Hardiness Zones 7a-4b.
