Description

PALOAM™/HAVEN BLUEBERRY

Vaccinium corymbosum

Origin: (2004) Hartmann's Plant Company

Southern high-bush cultivar hybridized and selected by Patrick J. Hartmann and Arthur Elliott of Earleton, Florida. Plants are vigorous growing to 5 to 6 feet tall and finely shaped upright. 30% of the fruits ripened April 12th in Earleton, Florida in 2004, ripening with other early ripening Florida selections. Yields are high at 8 to 14 pounds per plant in Earleton, Florida. Foliage appears prior to flowering so there is no need for applications of Dormax.

Fruit size is medium and uniform size throughout the harvest. Berry quality is excellent with a small dry scar. Storage of fruit is excellent and is very comparable to Misty Blue. Harvesting can be done by hand or mechanical harvest. The upright growth habit and uniform ripening is a perfect choice for mechanical harvest.

Marketing is for early fresh markets due to the fruits superb quality flavor, size, and early ripening time. Plants have excellent resistance to Phytophthera cinnamomi and other fungal diseases. Plants are self-fruitful and will not need a pollinator as other Southern High-bush cultivars are recommended to need. Hardiness Zones 10-7.
