CONSORT CURRANT
Ribes nigrum
Consort originated in Canada. The deep black fruits are medium in size 3/8” in diameter with good fruit quality. The fruits are full of juice with a strong acidity and slightly sweet.
The fruits begin ripening in mid-July in Southwest Michigan with harvest completed in a 10 day period. Yields are consistent yearly, approximately 7 pounds per plant. The plants have good vigor growing up to 4 feet in height with slight susceptibility to powdery mildew and not susceptible to white pine blister rust. USDA Zones 4-7.
