Description

ANA KIWIBERRY

Actinidia arguta

Female (Fruiting) Variety

Arriving in the United States from Belgium in 1972, Ana is the mainstay of kiwiberry production in the Pacific northwest, thus making it one of the more common varieties found in the market today.

The variety bears dense clusters of medium to large sized oblong fruits, with a bright green background and striking red blush under good sun exposure.

The flavors are tropical and citrusy, sweet and slightly tart, as reflected in its full name Ananasnaja (Russian for pineapple).

The vines will begin to produce in the third season, yielding several pounds at the start and capable of producing, with proper care, in excess of 50 pounds per year when they reach their peak (year 5 and beyond). Depending on the season, this variety can be susceptible to cosmetic issues (e.g. flyspeck) and off-flavors in the skin. Harvest window: early to mid October. Recommended commercial or backyard cultivar. USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4b - 8.
