Description
REVEILLE BLUEBERRY
Vaccinium corymbosum
Origin: North Carolina State University
Southern high-bush type cultivar. Involved are three different Vaccinium species from the southern U.S. V. ashei, V. darrowi, and V. tenellum; in addition from the northern U.S. V. corymbosum and V. angustifolium. Standard height 6 to 7 feet. Ripening time is early. Most years it ripens earlier than O'Neal. Yield is moderate but consistent yearly.
Quality of fruit is good and the fruit color is a beautiful powder blue. Picking scar is small which lends itself to good post harvest shelf life. The bush adapts well to mechanical harvesting; this is the main reason for its release. Fruits of this cultivar mechanically harvested have been superior to hand harvested fruit of other North Carolina cultivars.
Plants are narrow and upright in growth habit. The plants are vigorous and adapt well to most soil types. Plants have shown some resistance to stem canker, stem blight and mummy berry. Bloom time is early so frost protection is recommended. Hardiness Zones 8b-7b.
