PATENT PENDING 'FE' CHERRY TREE
PRUNUS CERASUS
The FE Cherry is a hardy, late-season sour cherry variety prized for its excellent cold tolerance and exceptional fruit quality. This pie cherry thrives in challenging climates, withstanding temperatures as low as -45°F (USDA Zone 3a or lower), making it an excellent choice for northern growers.
The tree grows 8–12 feet tall and at least 8 feet wide, with a naturally spreading habit. It performs well in both heavy and light soils, adapting to a wide range of growing conditions.
The fruit is medium-sized, weighing 4–5 grams each. The flesh is yellowish-pink, darkening further when frozen or processed, while the skin and juice are a bright red, making it ideal for pies, jams, juice, and fresh eating. The pit is medium-sized and slightly oval.
Flavor is outstanding, with a Brix level of 17–21, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness that sets it apart from typical sour cherries.
Ripening time: Mid to late summer
Best use: Fresh eating, pies, preserves, juice, and processing
